We're Austin and Michaela, lifelong animal lovers with a special place in our hearts for dogs. Before launching Tails & Treats, we spent years caring for the pets of friends, family, and neighbors—and quickly realized how much we loved creating a home-away-from-home experience for every dog who stayed with us.
Located on a beautiful fenced acre in Nokesville, our home offers plenty of space for supervised play, exploration, relaxation, and personalized attention. We intentionally keep our boarding groups small so we can get to know each dog individually and provide the care, structure, and love they deserve.
We understand how difficult it can be to leave your dog behind. That's why we treat every pup as if they were our own and keep pet parents connected with daily updates throughout their stay. Overnight Boarding
The 24-hour period begins at the dog’s scheduled drop-off time and includes a two-hour pickup grace period. If the dog is picked up more than two hours after the original drop-off time, but before reaching six additional hours, the regular full-day daycare rate applies. At exactly six additional hours or anything beyond six additional hours is charged as another boarding day.

Unlike traditional boarding facilities, boarding at Tails & Treats includes supervised daytime play and enrichment at no additional daycare charge. We believe boarding should feel like a fun, comfortable staycation—not days spent waiting in a kennel. Our guests are given plenty of opportunities to play, explore, relax, and enjoy both indoor and outdoor time throughout the day.
Someone is always home with the dogs, so our furry friends are never left alone overnight. Each dog has access to one of our spacious, custom-built kennels for meals, overnight sleep, and whenever private space is needed for their safety or comfort.
Dogs typically settle into their kennels for the night around 11 p.m. and start their day around 7 a.m. Outside of meals, bedtime, or necessary separation, our goal is to provide as much safe, supervised playtime, individual attention, enrichment, and freedom to enjoy their stay as possible.
At Tails & Treats, kennels are meant to be a safe place to rest—not where your dog spends their entire vacation.

Individual Care
Does your dog prefer their own space? We may be able to accommodate dogs who cannot participate in group play or are more comfortable away from other dogs. We have several ways to safely keep dogs separated while still providing individual playtime, outdoor time, attention, and enrichment. All individual-care reservations are approved based on the dog’s needs and our available space.
The individual-care fees are:
First dog: additional $15 per day
Second dog from the same family: additional $10 per day
Third dog from the same family: additional $5 per day

What We Would Like To Know
Before your dog’s stay, we’ll ask about their normal routine, feeding schedule, medications, medical needs, sleeping preferences, play style, behavior, resource guarding, reactivity, separation anxiety, triggers, and anything else that will help us provide safe and personalized care.
Safety Is The Priority
Safety is the highest priority. Every dog is carefully introduced and monitored to ensure a positive experience. We pay close attention to canine body language and group dynamics so all dogs feel comfortable and secure.
During meals, rest periods, or whenever needed for safety and comfort, dogs may enjoy their own private space. We tailor care to each dog's personality, routine, and individual needs.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Information
All drop-offs and pickups are scheduled in advance. Availability varies by day, and on some days, 8:00 a.m. may be the earliest available drop-off time. We do not offer pickups after 7:00 p.m. We will confirm an available appointment time when your reservation is booked.
Deposit and cancellation policy
A 50% deposit is required to reserve your dates. The remaining 50% is due on the day of drop-off. Cancellations require at least seven days’ notice during non-peak periods and at least 14 days’ notice during peak periods and holidays. If a reservation is canceled with less than the required notice, the 50% deposit will be forfeited.

How It Works
New to Tails & Treats? Tell us about your dog and the dates you need. If your dog has previous group-play experience, an evaluation may not be necessary. If you would feel more comfortable scheduling a trial visit first, our New Guest Evaluation is $25 for up to four hours. We’ll discuss the best introduction for your dog before confirming care.

Sleeping, playtime, and updates
Every dog’s stay is personalized based on their personality, energy level, routine, and comfort. Dogs who enjoy group play are thoughtfully introduced to compatible dogs. Dogs who need or prefer their own space can receive separate playtime and enrichment.
Guests eat and sleep in our spacious, custom-built kennels. Clients are welcome to bring a familiar bed or blanket to help make their dog’s sleeping space feel more comfortable.
We send photo updates each evening so pet parents can see what their dog has been up to throughout the day.

What should I pack for my dog’s stay?
Please bring enough of your dog’s normal food for their entire stay, extra is always encouraged as they get LOTS of playtime and exercise and may be hungrier than normal.
For stays shorter than two weeks, please portion each individual meal into a separate labeled bag. For stays of two weeks or longer, you may bring your dog’s food in its original container if that is easier.
All medications should be clearly labeled and include written instructions explaining the dosage and schedule.
You are welcome to bring a familiar blanket or bed. Our custom-built kennels are spacious enough to accommodate your dog’s bedding.
Please do not need to bring food or water bowls. We provide bowls and sanitize them thoroughly between dogs.
Please leave any valuable or irreplaceable bowls, toys, bedding, or other belongings at home. Although we will always do our best to keep track of everything, personal items may occasionally become damaged or misplaced during a stay.
How many dogs do you board at a time?
To ensure every dog gets personalized attention and a calm environment, we only board up to 10 dogs at a time. This allows us to maintain a peaceful, home-like atmosphere.
Do you accept puppies or senior dogs?
Yes! We welcome dogs of all ages. For puppies, we ask that they are fully house-trained and up to date on their vaccinations. We are also highly experienced in caring for senior dogs who may need extra comfort or medication.
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that plans change. We offer a full refund for cancellations made at least 7 days before the scheduled drop-off time.
What does a typical day for my dog look like there?
With one of us always being home, your pup can get endless playtime and love/cuddles from us! The day starts with potty breaks and mealtime, and then they get at least a few hours of playtime! They normally want to take a midday nap after that, but it’s never forced. Because someone is always home, your pup can go outside to play anytime they want. Our dogs are obsessed with fetch, so that is a daily occurrence for us, at LEAST 2x a day. So they will get plenty of exercise with us if they want to participate!
